Hello from MPI New England!
Hi from Denmark
@Kristie, I can hardly hear you, can you speak louder
Hi from the UK :)
Ciao from Italy
Howdy from Sedona
Hello from Orange County CA
Hi from Connecticut!
Hi from Orange County, CA
Hello from Orange County California
Hello from New Jersey!
Hola from Mexico City
Greetings from Florida!
Dave Buckalew, CMP
Hello Everyone from Orlando, FLA
Hello from Sacramento, CA
@ Meaghan Rhame - could we chat offline following this?
Hello and sending Love from Virginia
Hello from NYC! Hope everyone is doing well.
If you're going to cancel WEC, when would you make that call by? Can that even be known?
Right now there are no plans to cancel, but I'll ask this question when we get to that section
Any plans to pull back on WEC advertising in these times. Announcing things like opening bands might come across a little tone deaf with what is happening right now.
Agree with Tim Whalen
We have our VP of Brand on the call and he can address those concerns when we get to the communication segment of this call
Hello from Atlantic Canada. Didn't understand the GMID guidance.
Wondering about timing and extensions for our spring retreats
We need guidance on GMID as well - what will that look like now?
I'm writing down your questions
We will address GMID later in the call
DITTO - how do we handle retreats? Ours is in 2.5 weeks.
We will be working with your facilitators to talk about virtual options
And we will address retreats on this call
We need resources and training to quickly pivot to virtual meetings, please
Patrick S. Brochu
Thank you Paul
How many chapters deal with a lockdown?
Note for WEC: there may be non-essential travel mandates still in place with employers. I had to take personal vacation to attend Cascadia.
Wendy de Jongh
Thank you Paul!
New Jersey is affected
Thank you for the update Paul!
Paul, thank you for your message to us all.
Belgium is affected
California as a whole
Northern CA has been affected as well
OC Ca as of yesterday
Orange County California cannot have meetings at this time.
Netherlands as well
South Florida Chapter is on lockdown
Sacramento though as of yesterday
Italy Lock down at the moment will end on April 3, but might be even longer...
Our members have travel bans and we're being asked to stay home for at least two weeks.
Belgium in lockdown!
Finland as well...
Easier question would be who IS able to continue meeting
Iberian in lockdown
Would love to see some resources and guidance available on the COVID-19 website for Non-US MPI members. We need Canadian (and European, and other region specific resources). At bare minimum a link to Government Public Health sources
Michigan is on lockdown!
Mexico Chapter is affected, no events here next weeks
Montreal Quebec all the events over 250 guests are not allowed. Everything is cancelled, massive lay off
Thank you for all you guys have provided thus far! It has been very helpful.... and these calls are refreshing to be able to virtually see you all during these times of cancellations
New England region has non-essential self-isolation directives. No shelter-in-place directives yet, but Governors are talking about potential in the coming weeks.
We cancelled all April events.
Nova Scotia says 150, but also to social distancing.
So we will need to cancel our GMID
MPI NE postponed Spring Meet-up and turned March Board Meeting virtual.
AZ currently has a ban on all events of 50 ppl or more through May 10th
is there a uniformed message we are to use at the Chapter level or at we ok to deviate our chapter messaging?
Oregon: No events with 25 or more for 1 month
France in lockdown and for 2 weeks minimum
The 6 Educational offerings is a concern for St. Louis.
AZ also closed all restaurants and bars until further notice…
Do you have any predictions when this crisis might be over?
So we can have our retreat after June 22 if need be? We are concerned that once we can meet, that those of us left with a job will need to be onsite with our jobs.
Same as Canada - all restaurants, libraries, museums, schools, bars are closed
Compliance Documents - is there any conversation about having it extended?
Legislation in Denmark is currently enforcing max 10 ppl both private and public. Only supermarkets and takeaway is open.
British Columbia - no gathers over 50 people, All bars, restaurants and casinos closed. K-12 schools closed (perhaps till the end of the year). University classes moved to online.
Mexico stills in stage 1.I work in a convention centre and we are closed for 3 weeks from yesterday. All our events are postponed and we have no cancelations so far, And all the administrative people are doing home office.
Now we could really show our members the strength of belonging to a global network of meeting professionals. All possible virtual education should be open to all members rather than those of the chapter only.
Italy: We have cancelled or postponed March and Early april Events,,,We are planning an all hand Italian Chapter call on March 30, Organize a virtual GMID on April 14 and still planning the annual convention in Turin on July 3 to July 5
can you have them due July 1
So consensus is talk to facilitator and decide how to handle retreat?
@Merja, completely agree! Live-Steam or Zoom conferences are the way of the future
that way the board would have them done before new term
Wisconsin has banned all gatherings, public and private, over 10 people.
MPI Tennessee is following the CDC recommended 8 weeks no larger than 10 people. Additionally, we've cancelled our May 14th Awards Gala which also holds our largest fundraiser. We've had sponsors pull out due to their financial struggles, and we didn't want to put stress on our board or other sponsors to get it all pulled together.
Who's zoom account do we use?
will we also been giving leeway if we do not hit our budget?
MMB Just sent out an email that GMID is postponed
we are thinking of doing our retreat virtually and then meeting in July to bond for a weekend. thoughts on that model?
Can we extend the renewal promotion? With so much uncertainty, Members may not feel comfortable renewing when they do not know the future of their role.
Facilitators are on the call. We are working on a virtual retreat plan. Please contact your facilitator this week to discuss your options.
Dave Buckalew, CMP
bring back interest free membership payment plan
Where can we find those presentations?
What if we did not have a facilitator due to budgets. Can we also receive the virtual retreat guidance?
This is great! Thank you
With the hospitality industry struggling right now, we are unsure about how to approach financial sponsors for our chapter - how do you recommend we do this? Is global looking into ways to support chapters financially in order to operate through the next few months without telling us to to dip into our chapter reserves?
CAROLINAS LOVES YOU STEVEN! THANKS!
Annual Survey deadline is today — does that deadline stand?
If you don't have a facilitator due to budget, I can help you to put your retreat together.
Breaking news just sent to our Upstate NY chapter admin: GMID is postponed, per Meetings Mean Business
Shouuld WEC move forward, would MPI Global be open to considering additional resources to support chapter leaders to get to WEC to come together to provide additional support, training, etc
How do we coordinate with EIC to get our members credit for the chapter sessions?
how about website fees, we’d appreciate relieving us from any costs as long as we cannot have any revenue
Can you explain the assistance plan for members who are losing jobs and how that works with their membership (or direct us where we can find that info)
Tara is awesome!! :-)
Edmonton Alberta close to 50% of our membership has been laid off or are under extreme financial strain
Any word on GMID? Will it be postponed to a date in the fall? Or cancelled all together for 2020?
Will these call slides be available to us post call today
Thanks for answering!
Is the zoom.us platform available in Canada?
Yes, this session is being recorded and slides will be available
Many MPI Members in Upstate NY are losing their jobs. For example, our Chapter AV sponsor just laid off 50 people on Tuesday.
What about chapters that this could potentially bankrupt? Has global thought about giving a higher percentage of member back to the chapters?
It would be great for you to compile these Questions and put in a FAQ document. Thank you all for this call!
The sooner we can know what, if any financial assistance is available from Global would be beneficial as we are entering the budget planning season.
Is there a mobile app/ way to easily access these chat rooms without having to log into the website?
will our budgets be reconsidered and/or given some leeway on the metrics?
Any thought about evolving membership payment plan instead of on-time payment required?
Can you provide a list of resources in one document that we can provide to our members.
Can we offer the MPI webinar programs (on last slide) as FREE offerrings to our members?
Is there any plan to help with members whos membership renewal is due this month or next month or extending the 60 day grace period? Understanding that they may be in a hard financial place even if not unemployed that companies are on a spending freeze?
If we could get some docs to share that unemployment stuff it woild be great
Would there be dicussion to extend MPI memberships for chapter members for current members?
Unemployment policy is one year … possibiility of extending?
ALL facilitators are able to assist those chapters who have financial restrictions to retreats
Suggestion to create a Chapter Leader Facebook page to share knowledge. Example like MPI TN they have one for their chapter members and it’s a wonderful tool to communicate!
Alyssa from San Diego
Yes please! Can you put together a one-sheet or some sort of concise document that we can push out to our members so they know we're thinking about the reality of this situation and the hardships that are likely to follow
Worried about members who were already job searching when this happened. Some already have exhausted their unemployment benefits and now finding a job is going to be impossible.
And gig workers....
Nice job to the senior leadership at MpI for really looking at everything! this isn’t easy, so thank you. ❤️
That is the help for the members but what about the help to the Chapter? When the Chapter goes down, you loose a lot of members.
postpone don’t cancel. the industry needs it and your vendors need it. a lot of our venues and vendors are small business and need us!
When you are talking about assistance to members, what is covered? Dues for membership? Event registrations? Assistance for businesses or personal finances?
There are so many questions on here from many of the leaders. Are you able to download the text portion of this chat room and find a way to navigate the answers that need some resolution?
Guidance on how much and how often to communicate COVID-19 information to our audiences and members, please
We are looking at all of that and hope to have a comprehensive statement
We will be able to save this chat and review internally - the hope is that anything we couldn't answer on this call we can answer on the March 30 call
Email signature art is needed in Toolkit, please
Thank you for keeping the non-US chapters in mind!
Valentina, MPI Finland
How can we use the digital badges?
Kudos to MPI for thinking of all these things given the current changing nature of what is happening - is it possible to set more regular update calls possibly? more for a platform to keep communication lines open as I see a lot of engagement amongst leaders here
The Crisis Communication Tips are AMAZING!!! Thanks for sharing that!
For all EU chapters - if there is anything the EAC can do for you please let us know. #strongertogether !
Is there any research that MPI are conducting across the globe in terms of impact. For advocacy with government? Lots of surveys independently being sent country by country and region by region. Might be worth a concise global research that could be disseminated by each chapter for their own use?
I like IMEX's #wewillmeetagain
Can Global share your email calendar for the next few weeks? I am concerned that we all may be overlapping messages and emails which can annoy members.
what Samme said! that would be great to get government support and press.
We appreciate everything you are doing however many of us are dealing with these exact same issues at our full time jobs. We are currently overwhelmed with putting fires out every hour.
Need lots more social media copy please!!
Twice a week beyond our usual communications?
From an advocacy standpoint, would love some focus or direct messaging for independent planners as it appears that segment of our community may not be eligible for most government assistance
Oregon President sent letter to all members expressing support, concern importance of staying together. We have established Board call every 2 weeks to evaluate and are creating a smaller group to reach out to members directly #wecare
twice a week is too much
Thanks guys - It’s going to take time to see what effect this has long term. Each day is changing the world. Thanks for your support team MPI!
Will this slidedeck be available somewhere? In the MyMPI Board Community?
The Presidents of the BC Chapters of MPI, PCMA and ILEA sent out a joint statement called “Stronger Together” as a message of support to all of us in the event industry
Don't forget to care about your people!!!! The more your messaging sounds robotic, the less it will be paid attention to and hit home. As leaders, we care about budget and membership numbers and retreats, but right now, our members don't. Don't forget the heart in your membership, and our members won't forget who cared about them when they were down.
Alyssa from San Diego
Its a Heart Thing - ALWAYS.
YES SHANNON! Preach. I think we need to focus on heart... not budget/selling/membership dues/sponsorships. Just we are here! Together!
SJones, you're right on point.
Phone, not email !!!
That's why Shannon Jones is MY President <3
So - can we speak to GMID again... has it been cancelled/postponed/moved to virtual?
Alyssa from San Diego
YES Steven!! SD is worried about what our members are worried about right now - their jobs and their health and safety. we're communicating to members with that top of mind. Things are virtual or are being canceled/postponed
MPI is still planning a day of virtual content on GMID, will address soon
Alyssa from San Diego
Annette - SD is very interested in virtual offerings for GMID
Are incoming board members in the private leadership communities?
Regarding GMID - This was sent out today but through MMB not MPI To: GMID MMB <email@example.com>Subject: GMID 2020 PostponedDear GMID Hosts,We hope this finds you well, safe and sound during this time of uncertainty. In light of COVID-19 and its developing impact on face-to-face gatherings, we will be postponing Global Meetings Industry Day. We greatly look forward to the moment when everyone who wants to participate in GMID can do so safely and confidently. The coalition is still here to help and is leading the industry’s effort to promote fact-based decision-making and awareness of the industry’s commitment to serving the public. Please do not hesitate to reach out for guidance or more information. To view our full statement on GMID in 2020, please click here. Many thanks for your patience, support and continued advocacy.Best,Team MMB
Will your presentation be available? and where we can access it?
Link to Eric R’s webinar here guys https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_smJBabErSrqiI9wxTZaKJg
I just saw a post on FaceBook that MMB has postponed GMID.
Where it will available (your presentation)?
how far out are chapters cancelling events?
Would like to see a report on Foundation assets and plans to deploy it. March 30?
My workshop is free folks - if you are a leader of team, need to re-strategize in the hotel, CVB or Agency business - do join me. I'm here to help. https://confconv.pages.ontraport.net/covid19
Are we able to share the resources for virtual meetings along with the codes to our members for their professional use? Or are those for MPI chapter use only?
Email recieved from MMBDear GMID Hosts,We hope this finds you well, safe and sound during this time of uncertainty. mpi.org > log in and go to Chapter Leader Resources > Messages from Global
Beth, Tennessee has cancelled through Mary 14th.
Beth, Connecticut has postponed to June and hoping as we plan June will still happen. Our motto should be Plan, Pivot, Plan!
thank you ..
San Diego is canceled through April.
If you’d like to be part of a virtual GMID experience, please take a look at this grassroots initiative: https://gmidgoesvirtual.com/
AZ is through April
Not realistic that bosses are going to approve WEC first week of June, even if we are back to business (maybe especially if we get back to business).
is there a good resource page for FB Live Parties? can you have up to 4 hosts in different locations with a standard FB account?
Some of us (me) were Chapter Presidents during 9/11. A very different kind of crisis, but the concerns and questions here are so familiar. Chapters = community/comfort /support/professional home. It's all about the members. Necessity is the mother of invention. I'm available if anyone wants to talk about what was done, or how we survived as chapter leaders, I am available.
does anyone else have any concerns of attendance dropping for events starting back up in June because people just aren't comfortable being back in a room with a ton of peole?
D/FW cancelled through April.
California Governor said yesterday schools wont even re-open until maybe fall..... is something to make us nervous for anything else in person.
OldSchoolLeadership @Michael Owen
We are hesitant to register for CBS/WEC. Most of us in CT are on full travel restrictions and if by chance our employers don't lift those restrictions we will lose that Chapter money. Thoughs?
We hear from our customers that they will be afraid to come to the event but also due to budget cuts might reduce their purchases
All big events are already cancelled until June here
Going forward we should plan on offering hybrid meetings.
Might global offer any support for Chapters to have their individual chapter zoom accounts? To keep Board Meetings, Committee meetings and just face to face virtual conversations.
Great idea Michelle!
@Jill - we’ve taken a fairly aggressive approach with cutting our budget for the rest of the fiscal year, and for our budget next year. We are planning and budgeting for much lower numbers.
Yes we will implement cleaning stations at all the upcoming events
We are more concerned about people not being able to afford it or sponsors not able to participate.
Wendy de Jongh
This morning in NL-call with sister associations, some said it will probably be difficult till august...
In addition to unemployment support, are there any plans from global to change the membership payments to a payment plan instead of one-time payment? That may be easier for some to remain part of the tribe.
are individual chapters refunding registered paid attendance or crediting to future events?
Beth, we've refunded.
Carolinas refunding for march chapter meeting registrations
MPISTL refunded registration for March education event.
MN is currently fully refunding our GMID event registration fees. Cvent has offered fee-free refunds if we "cancel" the event.
Also, we’re looking at what we’ve “always” done as far as our educational luncheons - maybe we make changes to the time we do meetings so that our out of pocket costs are lower, or sponsorship needs are less if they’re not during a meal time. Back to the drawing board :)
Zoom - 1 month = $19.99 USD
Alyssa from San Diego
SD refunded everyone or offered to hold monies for future events.
AZ fully refunded out Mach Mixer registrations.
Yes, can MPI work with Zoom to get the Pro account that allows for 300 people in a specific virtual meeting for unlimited time. Great idea.
Also, any suggestions from Global for how to handle boards that lose members due to unemployment/inability to maintain membership or so many other reasons during this
Zoom has removed phone call in fromheir free membership due resources being overwhelmed due to the crisis
we are offering refunds upon request but since we postponed we are going to credit it to the new event
Can we have a one-sheeting about the payment plans that we can share with our members on social media? Or include in emails?
The payment plans, etc. should be published as opposed to having to call membership - wouldn't it be proactive/showing that we care to have that easy to find and part of #wecare?
We are issuing refunds for our April event since it will not be rescheduled.
Ottawa refunded GMID registrations
Some Facilitators with active retreats for this spring have been working on a virtual model and will share with you when we have some ideas on best practices for it.
It's giving us the opportunity to reinvent our chapter and get back to basics. The "because it's always been done this way" excuse no longer stands. When you startt o look at it as an opportunity and not a hinderence, great things can happen.
I agree Carolyn. That process could evolve for this time
We have Google G Suite and Hangouts free as a 501(c)(3), but would be great to have a full Zoom account at a discount for larger virtual meetings
our organization is doing full refunds because our counties hav shelter in place with no meeting.
Shannon - you are reading my mind. Love it!
I agree, jones!
yes get creative! go virtual, discount registration, etc..
Will it be required to go to CBS? With events being cancelled our Chapter budgets are tight and this may be one place to cut.
Will you have virtual options for CBS and WEC? Several companies have eliminated non-essential business travel through June 30.
MPI San Diego is planning to divide our member list and call every single member to chat in person. This is part of our “Personal Outreach” membership campaign and crucial now more than ever! We recommend other chapters do the same. We can’t meet face to face but we can connect voice to voice.
Love that Erin!
yes, Erin! love this!
can you explain again what's happening with gmid?
Great idea, Erin. Some people are going to feel very isolated being stuck alone at home and this personal outreach is crucial!
Weekly call for now
do we have a time for the GMID global summit? (we are planning our own virtual discussion)
Keep the I in MPI. People in self isolation are having their mental health really affected. Help our members by reminding them we are “awake” 24/7 as MPI members. Use the chat zone to reach out anytime :) #weareMPI
Kelsey Packer, CMP
Weekly, as everything is so fluid
weekly this is changing so rapidly!
A chapter leader private Facebook group would be a great addition in my opinion!
weekly would be great
weekly then bi-weekly after virtual GMID would work
Wendy de Jongh
Well spoken Samme!
What about LinkedIn?
weekly, preferably not at 7 am PT!
I think weekly would be great just as a touch base
MPI Tennessee has started a members only facebook group page, and it's been very well received. Lots of positive messaging, job leads, etc.
definitely concerns with FB but understand if that's the only method
Can you make sure facilitators are included in the mympi group?
Patrick S. Brochu
Off to another Covid call. Bye all.
We should be modeling for our members by using the MyMPI communities
Great idea Erin Scholes!
most of us are homebound and this is a great way to create community amongst our leaders - a consistent time each week
Great call! Thank you for all the information!
Thank you, Global for keeping us together as a group and for trying to keep us all sane as we navigate this new terrain!
thank you MPI for your leadership & guidance!
Thank you Global, this was a great call!!!
This call was great! Thank you all for showing up with good energy! It helps!
Thank you for your guidance and leadership!
thanks to global for all of your hard work. I know it isn’t easy!
Thank you GLOBAL, grea call. Working hard here in AZ.
Thank you everyone. I like seeing these creative ideas on what chapters are doing now.
MPI Mexico Meeting planners discussed together strategies yo continue working together and Face adversity times with employees. we need to be stronger than ever
